IGDS Organizes Research Methodology Workshop at Nasarawa State University, Keffi

The Institute of Governance and Development Studies (IGDS) at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), successfully hosted a two-day Research Methodology Workshop on September 13–14, 2024. The event, held at the Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed Hall, School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), aimed at equipping students and faculty members with advanced research skills crucial for academic excellence and societal development.

The workshop began with a welcome address from the Director of IGDS, Prof. Andrew Zamani, who emphasized the centrality of research to governance, development, and academic progress. He acknowledged the commitment of participants and thanked the university leadership for their unwavering support.

Speaking at the opening session, the Dean of SPGS, Prof. Mohammed M. Ari, stressed the importance of such workshops in enhancing the capacity of students to undertake impactful research.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, at the event, Prof. Theophilus Daniel Lagi officially declared the workshop open. In his remarks, he conveyed the Vice-Chancellor’s commendation for the initiative, highlighting NSUK’s dedication to fostering a research-driven academic culture.

Dr. Usman A. Yusuf, Deputy Director of IGDS, extended his appreciation to the university’s leadership and other stakeholders, reiterating the Institute’s commitment to advancing research excellence.

The workshop featured a series of insightful presentations:
Prof. Andrew E. Zamani, the Institute’s Director, delivered a foundational lecture on research methodology, emphasizing its relevance to academic inquiry and problem-solving.
Prof. Ibrahim G. Umar, presented on “Selecting and Defining a Research Problem,” offering practical guidance for identifying and formulating research topics.
Dr. Mohammed Bello Baban’Umma led an engaging session on conducting literature reviews, providing participants with strategies to critically analyze and integrate existing academic work into their research.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the practical knowledge shared by the facilitators. Many commended the IGDS for organizing such a timely and impactful workshop, noting its potential to enhance their research capabilities.

The event concluded with a resounding acknowledgment of the leadership and dedication of Prof. Andrew E. Zamani and his team at the IGDS in promoting a culture of research excellence at NSUK.

The workshop reinforced the university’s vision of advancing scholarship and capacity-building, further establishing the IGDS as a hub for academic and professional development.
