ActionAid Nigeria and IGDS-NSUK Train 2nd COHORT of Participants on Humanitarian Development and Peacebuilding

ActionAid Nigeria, in collaboration with the Institute of Governance and Development Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), organized a Training on Humanitarian Development and Peacebuilding Academy from Monday, November 25, to Friday, November 29, 2024. The program took place at the Old Senate Chamber of NSUK and brought together participants eager to enhance their knowledge and skills in peacebuilding and development.

The training was officially declared open by Prof. Andrew E. Zamani, Director of the Institute of Governance and Development Studies, NSUK. In his opening remarks, Prof. Zamani commended the university’s leadership, particularly the first female Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Saadatu Hassan Liman, for fostering an environment conducive to impactful learning. He highlighted the Vice-Chancellor’s support as a critical factor in ensuring the success of such initiatives.

To complement the in-class sessions, participants were taken to Yarkade Community in Keffi Local Government Area for an outfield engagement. This practical exercise allowed them to interact directly with community members and leaders, gaining first-hand experience in grassroots humanitarian and peacebuilding activities. The field visit was a highlight of the training, enabling participants to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

Participants lauded the effort of both ActionAid Nigeria and IGDS NSUK in organizing the academy, describing it as a unique and enriching experience. They expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to gain new insights and knowledge. The director also took the time to commend the resource persons and appreciate the Deputy Country Director and the consultant from ActionAid Nigeria, whose expertise added great value to the program.

The academy underscored the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and development organizations in addressing humanitarian and peacebuilding challenges. By equipping participants with new skills and perspectives, the program has set a strong foundation for fostering sustainable peace and development in communities.

As the event concluded, it was clear that the partnership between ActionAid Nigeria and IGDS-NSUK has created a pathway for impactful learning and community engagement, one that both organizers and participants hope will continue in the future.

The training concluded on a high note, with Prof. Andrew E. Zamani officially declaring the program closed. He congratulated the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills gained to address humanitarian and peacebuilding challenges in their respective contexts.
